THE GELLER HARDWARE STORY

When Geller was established in 1957,  it enjoyed the UK and Eire distribution for Universal Cash Registers, manufactured in Nottingham. These were press-down-key models of which we sold many thousands directly to nationwide multiple retailers and hospitality establishments as well as through our dealer network to smaller users.

Between the years 1960 - 1969 Geller acquired the UK and Eire rights to distribute electro-mechanical cash registers from Hasler of Switzerland and Remington Corporation of the USA as well as the dealer distribution rights for Gross Cash Registers made in Brighton.

Their introduction to the field of digital electronics started in 1970 when they began the import of electronic calculators  produced by Citizen Business Machines of Japan.

At the same time, the first of the early electronic cash registers were being developed and, following the decimalisation of sterling in 1971, they began sales of these products side by side with the electro-mechanical cash registers which were still being manufactured.

In 1971, their Chairman, David Geller, was invited to represent the cash register industry on the Government's Halsbury Committee which oversaw the introduction of decimalisation into the United Kingdom.

In 1974, they began to distribute electronic cash registers made by The Towa Corporation of Japan, one of the leading manufacturers in the industry. After more than 30 years, their successful trading relationship with Towa continues to this day.
